About James Oldfield

JimFor more than 40 years I was a print journalist, enjoying a career as an award-winning newspaper reporter and editor, that spanned both local and national newspapers.

For nearly 20 years, I was a staff reporter on The Sun and the Daily Mirror. I have also worked for the Sunday People and the Mail Online.

After national newspapers, I spent some time as Head of Content for the Sunday Sun in Newcastle upon Tyne, before working as editor to launch a series of free newspapers which attained the distinction of being a runner up in the Paul Foot Award for investigative Journalism… pipped only by joint winners The Times and Private Eye.

My final position in print journalism was as editor for the paid-for weekly newspaper, the South Yorkshire Times. After this, I edited, launched, managed and published a number of online news sites.

From my teens, I have been a keen amateur recording musician – a multi-instrumentalist, song-writer and essentially a guitarist. In the late 1980s, I built and operated my own 16-track, tape-based recording studio – having studied for a year in the evenings, at a school of sound recording.

These days, I compose songs, classical music and therapy music, using a PC-based recording system. Having left journalism, I now divide my time between music and commercial web and print design.
